Art.

Art; a single word representative of countless unique crafts that have been drafted from not only our ideas but our very existence. From the moment our being of intellect met the streams of consciousness, a means of self-expression and a desire for individuality struck. Art provided us with relief from this invisible itch, remarking a revolution for humankind.

Art has existed in many forms throughout history. From our earliest ancestors carving lines into stones in the Blombos cave in South Africa to the handprints in the Lascaux cave in France, it's still debated what's considered art, and the meanings behind these symbols and marks are still disputed to this day but one thing we can confidently say is that individuals who dared to leave such marks not only made an imprint in their sacred sanctuary but also history itself. This was their way of labeling their presence and their identity. These pictographs and symbols not only paint us a being who engraved it but also a unique individual with their own story. This was undoubtedly the earliest means of self-expression.

In a way, Self-expression is a means to individuality. The human brain is conditioned from birth to believe that one is unique, that one is different from others, and that one is unlike others. The yearning for distinctiveness is a common virtue of every living creature. To revolt on the chase of this yearn and build up on it is art.

Art has existed in many forms and supplies different meanings to different individuals. Most of the time, only visual art springs into our minds when we think of art, but it is so much more than that. Painting, sculptures, statues, literature, and music, these are all forms of art; however, If art is a means of self-expression, then everything we do from the day we gain consciousness till the day we lose it is art.

Everything is art. From every stroke of a brush smudged into a canvas, to every key played on a piano, to every letter written in ink to even every breath we take. Our surrounding itself, is a form of art resulted by the wonders of nature and so are we. Not only are we artists but we are art itself, crafted by the whims of the universe.
